Ludham Hall, originally the Bishop’s Palace is situated on the outskirts of the pretty Broadland village of Ludham, in Norfolk. Ludham Hall has many features dating back to the Seventeenth Century, and earlier, including its own chapel built onto the north end of the house by Bishop Harsnett in 1627. Ludham Hall, located in the heart of Broadland and with stunning views over the cattle and horse grazing marshes, it is possible to see the historic site of St Benets Abbey, a Scheduled ancient Monument, and the billowing sails of river boats as they make their way along the River Ant. The Ludham Hall Estate is now farmed by the Ritchie family, which includes a three hundred cow dairy unit grazing the Environmentally Sensitive Area marshes, which are divided by a network of small waterways and surrounded by three Broadland rivers – the Ant, the Bure and the Thurne. A riverbank walk has recently been opened up, offering access to keen ramblers to a completely unspoilt corner of Norfolk. The farmland surrounding Ludham village and beyond is part of the Countryside Stewardship Scheme, promoting hedgeplanting, several miles of marked public access (footpaths and bridleways), with established grassland margins, providing a variety of habitats for invertebrates, mammals and birdlife. There is a wide and constantly changing number of wildlife on the farm, and we work closely with the Hawk and Owl Trust to improve the habitat of the Barn Owl. Bird surveys are done regularly, with up to 84 different species being sighted in recent years, along with 8 different species of dragonfly and 9 different species of butterfly. From the base at Ludham Hall there are a number of activities that can be undertaken such as Painting – beautiful Broadland views, St Benets Abbey, birdlife Sailing – wherry trips, guided river tours Walking – miles of riverbank and farmland walks, with guided history tour Broadland nature reserves Stately homes and gardens Golf Clay shooting Equestrian Cookery Any combination of the above can be organised for you with accommodation at the cottages, and dinner and breakfast served at Ludham Hall.
